Children spotting BVs in topics across the curriculum!
St. Marks Primary pupils are spotting British Values in all lessons comparing life now with Romans and democracy, Victorian laws, mutual respect or lack of it during Tudor times and individual liberty during WW2.
They have also found science lessons, RE and PSHE lessons often implicitly touch on this area and remind them what being British stands for. Every topic now records links to British Values as part of learning reviews.
Mrs Molyneux, Year 1 “I have been delighted by how children quickly refer to a BV within our work on minibeasts, encouraging everyone to take care of all the creatures in the school garden. I would never have thought children so young could make such important connections.”
Miss Smith, Year 5 “Victorian ideas of law and punishment have been eye-opening for my class and led to lots of comparison to laws today and what they should expect as British citizens. In class discussions, children have constantly referred to the BV signs on the playground in order to reflect on how times have changed.”
